The Signal Is Getting Fuzzy
Imagine a future where AI models are trained entirely on content made by other AIs. No human signal left in the loop.
This future is on its way.
A new digital preservation project, lowbackgroundsteel.ai, is quietly archiving pre-2022 internet content, our last fully human online record. At first, it sounds quaint, like a digital museum. But then you remember: generative AI is trained on our past. Our stories. Our voices. Our humanity.
Before 2022, the internet was still mostly us. After? It’s increasingly AI talking to itself. Generating content based on content generated by models trained on content generated by other models. And on and on.
Eventually, this creates a dangerous phenomenon called model collapse, a compounding degradation of clarity, creativity, and truth.
And it’s not just an AI problem.
It’s a human one.
Because the real risk isn’t that machines become more human. It’s that we become less so.
The Physics of Trust
Last week, I wrote that when things change this meaningfully, this quickly, the basics matter more. Let me name one of those basics:
Trust.
And trust isn’t built from charisma or cleverness. It’s built from resonance.
You already know this. You feel it in your body. We all do.
It’s why you instinctively trust one leader before they speak, and doubt another even if their resume shines. It’s why you’ll follow some brands to the ends of the earth, and scroll right past others.
It’s not strategy. It’s not scale. It’s not simply storytelling.
It’s frequency.
In physics, resonance is what happens when one frequency naturally amplifies another. When you’re in resonance with someone or something, it vibrates in you. No explanation needed. No faking possible.
It’s the same reason your mother could quiet you as a baby with just her voice. You didn’t need to understand her. You felt her. Her rhythm. Her truth. Her frequency.
This is how trust is built. Not by facts. But by felt coherence.
The Risk of Optimizing Away Our Humanity
If you’re a leader, founder, creator, or brand builder, you’re likely using AI right now. (I do too.) But there’s a dangerous threshold we all need to watch for:
It’s the moment you optimize for performance but lose presence… when your message is polished, but no longer personal… when your voice is everywhere, but its no longer yours.
This is when trust begins to erode.
And trust isn’t a “nice to have.” It’s the foundation of everything that lasts:
Real loyalty
Deep influence
Resilient brands
Teams that stay
Customers who return
Movements that rise
The hard truth about deep trust? You can’t fake it.
No matter how clever your messaging is, no matter how perfectly optimized your funnel becomes, the deepest rooted and longest-standing trust isn’t built on performance. It’s built on presence.
In this world of infinite noise, resonance isn’t soft. It’s essential. It’s not the polish that earns belief. It’s the frequency that lands in the body and says:
This is real. I can trust this. I can follow this.
Not clever. Not perfect. Resonant.
The Cost of Losing Coherence
We can feel when something’s off. When someone’s saying all the right words, but something in the signal doesn’t land.
That’s not a branding issue. It’s a frequency issue.
And in this new landscape, sameness is dangerous. When brands mimic each other… when leaders perform instead of embody… when companies become noise instead of signal… we don’t just lose differentiation. We lose trust.
We’ve been trained to polish, to please, to perfect. But that’s not what resonates. That’s not what moves people.
What moves us is the unmistakable coherence of someone who is aligned—present, rooted, and real.
The Work Is to Remember
Yes, the internet is changing. Yes, business is changing. Yes, leadership is changing.
But the one thing that will never change is this:
Humans feel each other.
Before we think, we feel. Before we choose, we sense. Before we trust, we know in the way the body knows, in the way the heart knows, in the way energy never lies.
In an era where models are trained on models and machines are talking to machines, the most powerful act of leadership is not optimization, it’s return… to the self, to coherence, to the frequency only you can transmit.
This is not soft work. This is sacred work. And it is the only work that cannot be replicated by code.
Stay Human.
